Parks & Recreation
Alameda abounds with parks offering open space, recreational facilities and shoreline access. Within the community there are 18 parks; two large beachside recreation areas — Crab Cove Shoreline Park and Crown Point State beach; the Chuck Corica Golf Complex; tennis courts sprinkled throughout the island; two swim centers; several public boat ramps; and miles of well-maintained bicycle paths.
At Crab Cove Shoreline Park, the visitor center helps to increase public understanding of the environmental importance of San Francisco Bay and ocean ecosystems. And Crown State Beach’s showpiece is its 2.5-mile beach, with sand dunes bordering a bicycle trail.
Bay Farm Shoreline Park
Bay Farm Shoreline Park is a slender greenbelt that runs along the northern and western perimeter of Bay Farm Island. Perfect for jogging, walking or simply enjoying the sun and views, the Bay Trail follows the paths of the park and has alcoves with benches, play structures and sand pits, public restrooms, sculptures, and lawns. Shoreline Park promises great views of the San Francisco skyline, the southeastern shore of Alameda, the San Leandro Channel, McAffee Coliseum, Towata Park, the Oakland Hills and Crown Memorial State Beach. The Bay Trail also connects with the Harbor Bay Ferry Terminal, with service to San Francisco's Pier 39 and Oakland's Jack London Square.
